The 8740 Chrome Moly construction with an added proprietary element is more durable and will not stretch like the factory bolts. The threads are rolled after heat-treating to provide optimum fatigue strength.

These heavy-duty, reusable head studs are rated at 220,000 plus psi tensile strength and 210,000 plus yield strength to ensure better clamping force under higher combustion pressures to help prevent a lifted cylinder head or a failed head gasket.

In addition to the increased strength, replacing the factory head bolts with studs also allows you to obtain a more precise torque reading. A conventional bolt gets twisted as it is tightened, so it's reacting to two different forces at the same time.

With a stud the force gets applied to the vertical axis, resulting in a more even clamping force. These studs are a must-have for high-horsepower applications and are reusable, unlike the OEM Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolts which must be replaced after each use.
