Mitte der 1980er Jahre begann das Projekt, aus der berühmtesten und weitverbreitetsten weißen Rebsorte der Welt einen Wein von höchster Qualität und Rang zu schaffen. Der Weinberg San Francesco wurde 1985 von Lucio Tasca im unteren Teil des Hangs auf einem Boden angepflanzt, der aufgrund einer tieferen aktiven Schicht und einer durch die geringere Regenwasserabfuhr besonderen Frische fruchtbarer war als die durchschnittlichen Regaleali-Böden.

2023 zuletzt verkostet und brauchte noch reichlich Luft. Spricht für die Langlebigkeit dieses Weines.

Das Klonmaterial stammt zum Teil aus dem Burgund. Die Anbaufläche erstreckt sich auf etwa 5 Hektar mit einem Pflanzschema von 2,60 Meter mal 1,20 Meter (3.200 Pflanzen pro Hektar) in einer Höhe von 520 bis 532 Metern. Es handelt sich um einen bemerkenswert tiefen, gut strukturierten Boden, die Wurzeln reichen jedoch nicht weiter als 70 Zentimeter in die Tiefe.

Die Gärung der Trauben erfolgt in 350-Liter-Barrique-Fässern aus französischer Eiche, davon 70% neues Holz und 30% Holz welches zum zweiten Mal benutzt wird, mit täglicher Batonnage für die ersten 10-15 Tage, dann wöchentlicher für die restlichen 8 Monate der Reifung. 

Der Chardonnay ist eine sehr früh reifende Rebsorte, die in Regaleali normalerweise zwischen Ende August und Anfang September reif wird, wobei es von Jahrgang zu Jahrgang nur geringe Abweichungen gibt.
